Lately, I’ve been finding myself extremely inspired.
Everyone around me seems to be picking up and leaving, if they haven’t left already. My roommate just applied for a Fulbright Grant so she can move to Malawi. A friend of mine left for Korea a few months ago to teach English, and I have another friend on her way to do the same. I have a friend who just moved to Paris for a year. I have a friend who is studying abroad in Austria and another studying abroad in Australia. I have a friend who spent her entire summer “country-hopping” around Ireland, France, India, Thailand, and Japan. Even random people whose blogs I read are just buying one-way tickets to London, with no real plans for after they get there.
Given that I’ve never been out of the country (that one time I went to Tijuana doesn’t count), you can imagine the extreme wanderlust I am feeling right now. I want to travel. Badly. And not just take-a-roadtrip-two-states-over traveling. I’m talking leave-the-country-and-really-see-the-world traveling. Like my major advisor told me a few weeks ago, now, while I’m young, free, and completely detached of any ties and commitments here in Sacramento, is the time to travel. And that’s exactly what I’m going to do.
My 2011 Travel Itinerary (subject to change):
January – Paris
March – Korea
Summer – Herrang Dance Camp in Sweden
Fall – Spain (I may or may not be moving there… the decision is still in process)
I’m getting excited just thinking about it. It’s going to be expensive, and it’s going to be a little scary, but it’s also going to be so worth it in the end.
So where are you going? And where have you been?
