Chris, Otis, and I went camping last weekend at Sunset Union Valley Campsite in El Dorado National Forest. We went with our friends Brigette and Brad, the same couple we went to Yosemite with last year. Even though last year’s camping trip was awesome, I thought this year’s camping trip was even better! Logistically, the campsite was only an hour and a half away and it was really easy to find. It was also nice that we only stayed at one campsite throughout the weekend instead of two which made for less time spent driving and unpacking/packing. (Last year we stayed outside of Yosemite the first night and in Yosemite the second night due to campsite reservation difficulties.) The campsite we stayed at this year was really pretty and it was even surrounded by a lake where you could watch the sunset, hence the name!
As for the weekend itself, it was really relaxing and chill which is all I hoped it would be. We spent our time sitting by the fire, taking naps in the hammock, playing games, rocking our flannel shirts, and splashing around in the lake. I also made a point to “unplug” and not check social media throughout the weekend. It felt really good not to be on Facebook for two whole days!
My only complaint about the weekend was that it wasn’t long enough. We didn’t get to the campsite until late Friday night and we left around noon on Sunday. This camping trip was a good, cheap, quick weekend getaway, but I’m still feeling that wanderlust inside of me. Good thing our weekend trip to Carmel is coming up in two and a half weeks!
