Whew! These last couple of weeks have been pretty crazy around here.
It started when I went to Las Vegas last Tuesday through Friday for my much anticipated work trip. I was excited for this trip for a couple reasons: 1) I hadn’t really done any traveling since our New York trip last year and 2) this was my first work trip ever! #bigkidjob
The reason my work sent me was for a conference on database management and professional development. The conference was two and a half days of classes, and it was intense! I’ve been out of school for five years, so I kind of had a hard time trying to absorb so much new information at once in a classroom setting. Because I had to learn and retain information during my trip, I felt a little restricted on how late I could stay out every night. (Being in bed by 10pm was a must!) I also felt restricted during my trip because my half marathon was coming up, so I made sure not too drink much alcohol in fear of dehydrating myself before the race. Finally, I didn’t want to spend a lot of money while I was in Vegas because we’re moving soon, so I didn’t see any shows or do any shopping. My evenings were basically spent having dinner with my co-workers and relaxing in my hotel room. Overall, even though this work trip was in Vegas, it still wasn’t much of a vacation due to bad timing with my race and move. The one nice thing about this trip is that I only had to take care of myself for a few days; I didn’t have to cook dinner for Chris, I didn’t have to make sure Otis got all his pain meds, all I had to worry about was me which is something I haven’t done in a long time!
As for my third half marathon, it was on Sunday and it was amazing! I set a new PR of 2:06, which is 9 minutes faster than my first half and 12 minutes faster than my second half. My goal was to finish in 2:10, so I definitely exceeded my expectations. I trained for this race for four months and could definitely see the difference in my performance, not just because of my time, but because of how I felt during the race. During the first half of the race, I felt pretty fast going back and forth between 8:40 and 9-minute miles. I also didn’t have to take as many walk breaks as I’ve done during past half marathons. I’m so proud of myself for achieving my PR goal and am on such a runner’s high right now. I think I might even sign up for another half happening next month!
After eating, showering, and napping after my race on Sunday, I started packing for our move this weekend. Trying to coordinate this move while in Vegas and focusing on doing well during my race has been BEYOND HECTIC, but we’re getting there. Chris and I have been packing every day after work and taking breaks to figure out utilities or shop online for a fridge, washer, and dryer. Everything seems to be falling into place, though, and in a couple days we’ll be all moved in to our new home. I can’t wait for this new beginning with my little family!
How was your week? What are your plans for the weekend?
