Now, I don’t plan on turning my blog into a mommy blog. (We already know I can’t commit to a niche!) But I do want to post weekly pregnancy updates here to help me remember this exciting time in my life. I’ll be posting my weekly bump updates here on Fridays, so if you’re into that sorta thing, check in here every Friday from now until December 28th!
The second trimester of pregnancy starts around week 13 or 14 depending on who you ask. Regardless of when it started, I always assumed my annoying first trimester symptoms would automatically shut off right away and I’d immediately be greeted with that second trimester bliss: no more
morning sickness all day sickness, lots of energy, etc. Unfortunately for me, that bliss is taking longer to kick in than I hoped it would. I haven’t thrown up in over a week, but I still feel little waves of nausea once in a while. I’ve been feeling more tired than usual this week resulting in two-hour-long naps. And my appetite is not back to normal yet; I’m still craving salty/starchy foods, fruit, or Jamba Juice, and get grossed out over the thought of cooked veggies, some meats, coffee, or anything with a strong smell. Overall, nothing ever really sounds or tastes good, and I’m getting fuller faster. I feel like I’ll be back to normal once I’m hungry all the time and get excited about all my favorite foods again, or just food in general.
Something else I’m looking forward to is being able to workout soon. I’ve been trying to get a lot of walking in when I can, and when I start to gain more energy, I want to try prenatal yoga. I hear working out during pregnancy will help with labor and I don’t want to gain too much weight. I plan to gain 40 pounds AT THE MOST.
Some other questions I’ve been getting asked a lot are if we plan to find out the sex and if we’ve started thinking about names. We definitely plan to find out and announce the sex in five more weeks. I’m a Type A, premature planner, so I’d like to know the sex so I know how to decorate the nursery and what kind of clothes to buy before baby gets here. I know it’s possible to do that stuff after the baby gets here or go with gender-neutral stuff if we decided we want to wait until delivery day to find out, but there really isn’t a huge selection of gender neutral stuff out there. Plus, I don’t want to have to deal with finishing the nursery or washing/returning clothes after the baby is born. I’m going to be extremely sore and sleep-deprived after giving birth, so ain’t nobody got time for any of that!
As for names, we are 100% decided on a girl name (we actually chose it long before I even got pregnant #prematureplanner) and are pretty set on a boy name, but I think we are going to wait until the baby is born before we share the name because we don’t want to deal with people trying to change our minds or giving us their negative opinions on the names we choose. I hear with pregnancy comes a lot of unsolicited advice, so that’s something to look forward to…
That’s all the updates I have for now. I love that this week was a short week because the weekend is here already. Chris and I plan to have a garage sale this weekend to get rid of some junk that’s been taking up space in baby’s soon-to-be-nursery. I’m sure we’ll use whatever money we make for nursery furniture. Win win!
How was your week? What are your plans for the weekend?
