Ever since we moved back in October, I’ve been wanting to share pics here of how we’ve decorated our new home. Well, almost four months later, I still haven’t shared any pics because we’re STILL decorating and buying stuff for our new place. I have, however, finished decorating my home office. In fact, I gave it a complete makeover with some new furniture and I’m super excited to share the results here today.
When I was in my early twenties, I was into black furniture because I thought it looked very modern and chic. But now that I’m older and in my thirties, my taste is changing and I’m finding myself more attracted to white furniture now. I like how white furniture has a more feminine feel to it and helps to brighten up a room. Almost all of the furniture in our house is black, but also relatively new, so I’m not in a hurry to replace everything with white right away, but I figured I’ll start a slow transition now, starting with my office.
Here are the before pics. Clearly my office was a hot mess the day I took these:
Now here are the after pics with some descriptions of how I changed things up:
The most obvious change here is the white furniture. I sold all the black furniture on Craigslist and used the money I made to purchase my new stuff. I decided to go with a smaller bookcase because I recently decided to get rid of most of my books and go strictly Kindle. Now instead of having a bookcase that holds a bunch of dusty books I’ll never read, I have a bookcase that holds photo albums and a handful of books I can’t part with. It also displays some picture frames and some things I’m proud of, like my college degree and my half marathon medals.
The “She believed she could so she did” print is from Etsy and I chose it because it’s one of my favorite quotes. It resonates with me because I’m very goal-oriented and always pushing myself to be a better version of myself. I’m also a runner, and anyone who’s a runner knows that running is more mental than anything. As for the photo collage, I put that together to showcase all the big cities/countries I’ve traveled to: Paris, London, Seoul, Athens, Rome, Madrid, Koh Phi Phi, and New York. The ninth photo is also New York because I’m using it as a placeholder until we go on another big trip; I’m hoping that ninth photo will someday be a photo from Germany or Mexico.
You might be wondering why I have two monitors in addition to my laptop. It’s because my husband is a computer nerd and insists that more monitors helps with productivity. I’ll admit, he was right. It’s kinda nice having multiple monitors when I’m working on a bunch of different projects at one time. As for the stationary, I love to send mail, so I always have greeting cards, stamps, washi tape, and colorful pens nearby.
These last few pictures pretty much exemplify my two main hobbies and what I’ll be using my office for: blogging and photography! I’m trying to get better at blogging consistently, so I made a little editorial calendar as well as a blog to-do list to help keep me organized. As for photography, I love taking pictures and want to get better at it. One of my goals for this year is to learn how to use my DSLR.
That’s it for the tour! I absolutely love the new look of my office and am excited to be spending a lot of time here. I think the next room we’ll be working on is the master bedroom. We are in desperate need of a new matress, so I wouldn’t be surprised if we find ourselves at IKEA again this weekend!
Do you have a home office? How do you like to decorate? What color furniture do you prefer?
